The Booth Parkes team

Small enough to know you. Experienced enough to challenge you.

Our team combines broad general-practice experience with clearly defined areas of expertise. That means you deal with someone who knows you, while unusual or higher-risk matters are considered by the person best equipped to challenge the thinking and help find the answer.

Portrait of David Parkes

David Parkes

Founder and strategic adviser

David established Booth Parkes in 1983 and has spent more than forty years advising owner-managed businesses and individuals.

He is particularly involved when a matter is unusual, commercially significant or carries greater risk. His role is to understand the wider circumstances, question assumptions and help clients reach practical decisions—not simply explain the accounting or tax consequences afterwards.

David’s experience spans business structure, succession, company reorganisations, transactions and difficult situations where there may be no standard answer. His approach is direct, thoughtful and grounded in what will work in the real world.

Outside work

David enjoys keeping fit, renovating old buildings and motorcycles, riding anything with two wheels, and spending time with friends and family over the occasional pint.

Portrait of Sharon Staves

Sharon Staves

Senior accountant — corporate and management accounts

Sharon is an ACCA-qualified senior accountant who works closely with many of our larger business clients.

She brings together annual accounts, management information and corporate tax to give clients a clearer understanding of their business—not simply a record of what has already happened. Her experience enables her to identify issues, question unexpected results and raise matters that need attention.

Sharon also plays an important role in assessing new work and ensuring that the firm maintains the right standards, relationships and approach as clients’ needs develop.

Outside work

Sharon enjoys dog walking, walking breaks, travel and supporting her daughter at running and triathlon events.

Portrait of Richard Staves

Richard Staves

Senior accountant — owner-managed businesses

Richard is AAT-qualified and works principally with small and medium-sized owner-managed businesses, looking after their accounts and business tax requirements.

His organised and methodical approach helps ensure work progresses properly, deadlines are managed and important issues are identified rather than worked around. He understands the practical pressures facing business owners and provides clear, dependable support without unnecessary complication.

Richard also coordinates the flow of work through the practice, helping the team maintain continuity and ensuring clients’ affairs reach the right person when further judgement or specialist input is required.

Outside work

Richard enjoys football and motorsport, reading about the Second World War, live music, walking and travel.

Katie is particularly valued for her organisation, attention to detail and ability to build trusted, long-term client relationships.

Outside work

Katie enjoys cooking—especially South-East Asian food—and spending time with her dogs, Norman and Nellie.

She has a detailed understanding of payroll legislation and processes, enabling her to resolve issues that do not fit neatly into routine payroll processing. Her wider knowledge of accounting systems and business administration also helps clients establish practical ways of working and deal with problems before they become disruptive.

Sue has long-standing relationships with many clients and is valued for her thoroughness, reliability and ability to understand how a business works in practice.

Outside work

Sue enjoys following football, meeting friends and family over a glass of red, and taking part in her local ladies’ book club.
